#15

We're one week away from our final walk through! I really am in disbelief. I'm simply amazed by how quickly our house was built.
Yesterday they did the appraisal of the house. Since people hired by Ryan or NVR do the appraisal, I expected it to be pretty spot on and not a penny less. Actually, it ended up being about $6,000 more than what we paid. I'm not sure if it means anything but I'll take it.

#15 - Laundry Room

I wrote about the laundry room a couple of weeks ago before I started the countdown so there's not too much to say. I'm so happy we'll have our laundry room on the 2nd floor!

  1. So exciting! Who do they have do the appraisal? They don't use an independent appraiser?

  2. Jen, I should have been more clear. The fact that they are "hired" by Ryan or NVR makes me a bit cynical. In my mind, they're not going to let an appraisal come back that is less than what we paid for the house. I could be totally off about it.

  3. I was just asking because I thought that appraisers have to be hired without the mortgage company choosing them that it was random who is picked for each appraisal. I am concerned about our appraisal because our market has really dropped in the past few months and they raised the prices in our neighborhood $20,000 right before we bought our house but our market hasn't increased $20,000. So I am anxious to see what happens with our appraisal.

  4. @Jen We were told that you have the option of hiring an outside appraiser if you wish. I think that you would have to pay for it though.

  5. Jen, to be honest we didn't ask that specifically. It only came up when we were talking about the difference between the appraisal and the assessment. When I asked who did the appraisal our sales rep just told us they were hired by Ryan. We were never given the option Misty was, but we also never asked. We didn't even think to.
I really do think we overpaid for our house, so I was suprised that the assessment was even higher. Although I know it's a whole different situation, I'm curious to see what our coutny assessment will be.
