#17 and Electricity!

We have electricity!  I love the recessed lights.  They look great.  Almost all of the light fixtures are in and I'm very happy with them.  There's a couple of wires that need to be fixed - the laundry room light switch turns on the laundry room and the bathroom!  Oops.  But other than that, things are looking good.  They graded the driveway and removed the temporary pillar on the front "porch".  I'm guessing the new one will be in place soon.  It's just about finished.
We emailed our PM today about the microwave and several other small issues.  He said he'll get back to us tomorrow.  I'm thinking it is a code issue though, so there's not much we can do about it :(

 #17 - Fireplace

I've written about this before, so it doesn't need much explanation.  Not only do I love the way it looks, but I'm still giddy about the fact that all you have to do to start a fire is flip a switch!  I'm not sure that it will give off a lot of heat, but it will create a great atmosphere.  I'm ready for this winter to be over, but I'm looking forward to using our fireplace next year.

I guess I should have moved the ladder.

  1. If it's anything like the fireplaces in the models we were in--they were warm within like 8 feet which I guess is pretty good. I totally agree though that it just creates a great atmosphere in the room. Good luck with the microwave!

  2. I love the brick around your fireplace. I don't think this was an option for us (at least it was never mentioned).

  3. I asked our sales rep if the fireplace kicked out heat or should we get the blower and she said we should be fine without it.

    Congrats on the electricity.

  4. I agree with Lispis and 2011. The model homes we have been in that have had the fireplace going have been nice and toastie. We added the blower to give additional circulation AND to grab more of the heat and get it into the room. Without the blower it is more a radiant process...still toastie though. While we are excited to have 2 fireplaces(family room and basement) that we can just flip a switch we are going to miss our existing ventless fireplace. We converted from a wood burning fireplace to propane and went with the ventless. It is open to the room and looks like a real fire when on, but we are still loving the fact that we will have one in both of the rooms that we use the most. And I agree with Megan...the brick looks awesome and I too don't think that was an option, but we are going with the granite in the family room and stone in the basement.

  5. Hey KM...I asked my sales rep about the microwave over the gas stove and ours will be raised 3inches...above being flushed with the cabinets...But yours looks a little higher...It is new code....

  6. I guess we got under the old code with our microwave. Strange that things change so quickly with building codes. I LOVE the brick on your fireplace. That wasn't an option for us in the Zachary model but it is something we want to do down the road. We love having a fireplace in the family room. Didn't get the blower but it does make the room cozy when it's on for awhile and it's just nice to sit on the couch, watch TV and look at the fire that is so easy to light! :)

  7. I didn't even know a blower was an option...oh well. For us the brick was standard. It's so weird how things are so different in different locations.

  8. Yes...I agree with you regarding what is standard from location to location...slate was standard for us, with a bunch of granite options OR stone with about 5 different choices for the stone. The blower option also comes with a remote, so you don't even have to get up to turn the fireplace on...gotta love technology
